This cover story from Time discusses many ideas about what a student coming out of an American school should be doing. What they are not doing now. It is certainly interesting and thought provoking.
One facet of the story deals with how students should learn to be global citizens. I certainly agree to an extent. Something that Oak Hill High School has done over the last 8 or 9 years is provide an opportunity for students to travel overseas during Spring Break. I am in the process of planning Oak Hill’s 6th student trip. Our itinerary for this trip includes Italy and Austria. We have spent time during previous trips in Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, and Lichtenstein. Each trip has provided us an opportunity to expose students to people, language, food, history, and simply culture of other places. The trips are a chance of a lifetime for some of our students and a wonderful experience for all.
